Autism Cymru announces new Training Programme
CARDIFF, Wales: Please find below the first instalments of Autism Training organised by Autism Cymru. There will be more training coming up throughout the year and we will advise you on these when they arise.
Understanding and working with ASD
This training day focuses on the variety of issues that a person with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) may face, whatever their age or level of functioning. Unlike many Professional development courses in ASDs, this training begins with a focus on individuals with ASD and the impact of their differences in all aspects of their life. The training event will reinforce knowledge and concepts already held but use the underlying principle of understanding the individual and their disability of ASD as the key to moving forward in any situation.
Throughout the training, participants will be asked to examine issues from the perspective of the individual with ASD rather than adopt a traditional behavioural approach to the situation. Case studies of best practice and strategies suggested will be used as part of the participatory nature of the training event and are designed to be of practical help. Participants are also given the opportunity to reflect on their practice and enhance their professional development by using a variety of multi-media resources.
This one-day workshop has been developed primarily to meet the needs of practitioners new to working in the field of autistic spectrum disorders (ASD).
Autism Cymru has been instrumental in designing and delivering a bespoke two-day training programme to schools around Wales using this approach to evaluating best practice and also giving training participants the opportunity to celebrate their achievements and share their concerns about the young people in their care.
